does anyone know a failproof way to make sugar crystal candy?
I have tried to make it so many time and have fail over and over. So I need a recipe that someone knows works for sure.
I'm assuming sugar crystal candy is the same as rock candy. Boil enough water to come up about two thirds the side of whatever size jar or container you want to use (see through preferrably). Pour in sugar a bit at a time and keep stirring until no more sugar will dissolve (you'll know when the water has reached max saturation because the sugar you pour in will just sit at the bottom and not dissolve). Then use a pencil, chopstick, or anything that you want to hold the string. For the string, I've heard some people use paperclips or sticks, but for a foolprooth method use rough twine or string. Basically you want anything that's rough enough for the sugar crystals to form around once the solution begins to cool. Tie your rought string around the stick, and place the stick on the jar, leaving the end of the string suspended in the liquid. The amount of string that's let sitting in the sugar liquid determines how high up the string you candy will be. Now comes the hard part. Wait. Put the jar somewhere it won't be moved around too much, and wait for a few days. After a few days you should have a smallish sized piece of rock candy. If you want it to be bigger just let it sit more. If you want to be crazy, make another solution and after a while switch the jars so your rock candy has a new supply of sugar solution. Keep in mind, with this home version you'll never get those huge crazy large crystals, the manufactures use either pressure or a different type of sugar, I can't remember. At home you'll have smaller crysals but you cant still grow them to be fairly large.
