Etched Glass

The term 'modern' covers a whole gamut of styles, from sleek chrome lamps, through crystal chandelier type lamps, to simply, unfussy glass table lamps. All are popular, but all have very different characters. As far as colour choice is concerned, it all depends on what colours you find easy to live with, there's no point choosing fashionable orange if you absolutely hate it! How about toning the orange down to a russet or similar earthy shade, you'll probably find it easier to live with, yet still be right on trend. And, talking of staying on trend, modern table lamps can be so reasonably priced that you can afford to update them every couple of years. At the other extreme, however, are designer works of art that really are investment pieces.
Surprisingly enough, in the cheap and cheerful range you can find stunning LED touch table lamps that allow you to change the colour to match your moods; bouquet shaped lamps, each delicate bloom hiding a candle bulb; lamps designed to mimic animals; and pure retro lava lamps. How much choice can you stand!
Even if you're looking for a desk lamp, you'll be spoilt for choice, will you go for retro style with an anglepoise, or something far more quirky that could only have been designed in the noughties?
Traditional Table Lamps; Softer and less formal, maybe, but still relevant to modern homes
Just as in the world of clothing, lighting fashions may come and go but classic pieces, such as the traditional table lamp, never fade away. Of course, that's not to say that some of today's modern table lamps won't be the classics of tomorrow; some of the high end designer styles are absolutely stunning, somehow though, they don't seem quite as comforting as a traditionally styled lamp..
If you want to create a cosy, homely room, scene of family get togethers and relaxing evenings with a good book, then nothing really does that better than traditional styling, and with traditional styling come traditional table lamps. Paired neutrally coloured lamps look effortlessly by day and wonderfully comforting at night; soft metallic finishes, such as brushed, add to the feeling of stability and permanence. If you like the occasional flourish, then art nouveau styled lamps, with their acanthus leaves and lilies, are sinuously beautiful.
And don't think that traditional styling means you have to forego the wonders of modern science, touch sensitive table-lamps are available in styles ranging from the very traditional to the ultra-contemporary.
Glass Table Lamps - From Tiffany to Speirs and Old World Charm to Sleek Modernity
Glass is such a multi-tasking substance, windows, bottles, Christmas decorations, aquariums, windscreens, and table lamps. So it's hardly surprising that, when it comes to lamp design, glass table lamps come in all 'flavours' from traditional table lamps bearing Tiffany shades, to modern table lamps fashioned entirely from glass.
Stained glass lamps based on the designs of Louis Comfort Tiffany bring jewelled warmth to your home, and they look stunning whether off or on. Sun reflecting from a stained glass lamp paints attractive colours on your walls and ceiling, with not a drop of paint spilled.
If you're taste is for something more extravagant, consider table lamps with chandelier style shades. When these are illuminated, the light is broken into hundreds of facets that can be made to dance by a surreptitious flick with a finger. A cost-free method of entertaining the children!
If you prefer something more contemporary, the lighting world abounds with lustrous metal stands surmounted by etched glass shades and confections made totally from glass in an array of mouth watering colours. Who would have thought that sand could be turned into something so good-looking?
Of course, transforming sand into glass is old magic, a newer magic is the ability to create light with your fingertips, enter touch sensitive lamps. Two feats of magic in one, everyday but very beautiful object!

How to get white etched flowers off of glass?
We bought some property and we're putting a trailer on it until we build our house. The trailer is older and has a china cabinet with glass doors and white etched roses on it. I want to know the best way to remove the etching. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I really do think you'd be best advised to replace the glass. Even if the etching is only, say, a half of a thousandth of an inch deep, removing the etching is unlikely to be possible without remelting the glass or by machine polishing (something like Blanchard grinding). Regardless of how removing the etching might be attempted, taking the glass out of the cabinet would be necessary, and if you do that you might as well replace it. Much less trouble and cost.
