Transform your bedroom into a loving hideaway full of the beauty and grace of a sweet cottage garden. Individual touches, definitive cottage details, and blends of materials and patterns prompted by a quaint English garden blend together to make the ideal spot for lovers. The following hints can be utilized to help form your bedroom retreat.
Light and Cozy
Create the ideal cottage backdrop for your bedroom with luxuriously textured walls. Wallpaper featuring broad pastel stripes or florals provide the idyllic patterned backdrop. Or, try classical cottage wainscot or beaded board finished in a creamy tone of white. Run the wallpaper half way up the wall and top it off with a small shelf. Top the shelf with garden themed collectibles, vases, and plates.
Linens and Furniture
The centerpiece or focal point of the room will be the bed, whether it is constructed of natural wood, forged iron, or covered with cloth. A striped dust ruffle can be topped with a floral or a double wedding-ring quilt or a fancy coverlet. Mix up fabrics such as chenille, lace and cotton quilts and perpetually layer patterns when building romantic cottage style. Of course you will want to use some floral patterns, but also mix in stripes, tartans and checks. Selecting colors with the same hue saturation will pull it all together. Light or lightly colored walls will impart a stand out feel to accents and bedding. If you picked out floral wall paper, striped and tartan patterns, gingham checks and solids will coordinate if accent colors are drawn in. Add Romanticism with Garden Fresh Accents
* Make your vanity a one-of-a-kind personal statement by layering on old-fashioned white table dressings. Other accessories to choose from include a collection of heirloom photographs, silver champagne glasses filled with roses, and a silver jewelry box.
* An assortment of straw hats or hat boxes and floral plates make good accessories to go with your garden ambience. Set a straw hat on a hat stand on a corner table and hang other hats and plates behind it to make a multi-dimensional grouping. Fill a teapot or sugar bowl with your preferred blooms.
* Details matter. Dry lavendar hanging in bunches from a glass knobbed closet or room door is a good touch. Set a collection of floral and striped hat boxes on the top of an armoire. Place topiary on a chest of drawers. Don't neglect scents to coordinate with your theme; potpourri and candles in floral fragrances work well.
