Iced Tea – One of the most popular Tea in the United States
Iced Tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the United
States. Over the years, it has gained popularity in other countries
around the world, as well. According to a recent survey on tea, 2
billion gallons of tea are consumed in the U.S. yearly - 85% of which
is iced tea.
Looking into the history of iced tea, we come across two
theories--one school of thought believes that at the St. Louis World
Fair in 1904, Richard Blechynden of the East India Company was serving
hot tea to the visitors, when he noticed that due to the hot weather,
no one was interested in drinking hot tea. That's when he had the idea
of cooling the tea down with ice. The crowd loved it. The second
school of thought believes that the cookbooks written in the 1800's
prove that iced tea was heard of even before the St. Louis World's
Fair. The cookbooks referred to iced teas as punches made with green
tea, ice, sugar and bit of liquor. From this, we conclude that iced
tea was created before the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904, but became
popular only after the event.
Sixty percent of all the tea in America is consumed in the South.
There, iced tea has become so popular that it has affected wine sales.
Southerners usually like their tea sweetened. Mint, lemon, and whiskey
are some popular additions to American-style iced tea.
With the popularity that it has gained today, iced tea can be found in
restaurants - served over ice in a glass, or bottled at any
convenience store or supermarket. Some of the most popular iced tea
flavors are peach, lemon, raspberry and lime. Summer or winter, iced
tea has always delighted people with its refreshing and delicious
taste.

Why do Liptons iced tea and regular warm tea taste so different?
I drink iced tea all of the time.. it's my favorite beverage in the world. But I decided to go for lipton's hot tea, you know.. brewing it with the bag and everything instead of pouring powder into a cup. I found the hot tea to be completely disgusting, it was just gross for me. Why do they taste so different?
the iced tea mix has a lot of sugar in it. the hot tea from the tea bag has no sugar.
