Why should you not put rice cereal in baby's bottle?

We just started feeding our son rice cereal by spoon yesterday evening. He took about 2 small spoonfuls and then started getting restless like he wanted his bottle so I wasn't going to force him. We'll just try again tonight. My fiance suggested that we should feed him what he wants by spoon and add the rest to his formula. I completely disagree with this. Are there any articles that give facts why cereal should not be put into a babys bottle? Any help is appreciated!

There's no need to add it to the bottle. The only time cereal should be added to a bottle to thicken the formula a bit is if your baby has some medical condition like GERD (reflux).

At this point, when you are starting a baby on solids it is to give them a chance to learn how to eat with a spoon and get them used to different textures and tastes. There is no reason to put the leftover cereal in a bottle. It isn't to take the place of formula at this point, so it's not something he NEEDS to have. Just let him eat what he wants by spoon and toss the rest and give him his bottle.

He might just not be used to the texture, or the taste. You can try different cereals too - rice cereal is what they often start with, but there is also barley cereal, mixed grain, etc. Just be careful when adding new ingredients to watch for allergies and such.
